Potpourri – Job Connections Award

Danville gives Community Service Awards

DANVILLE — The town has honored numerous people and organizations with its Community Service Awards.

The awards were given during Tuesday’s 28th annual Mayoral Installation and Community Service Awards ceremony. The awards and winners are:

– Danville Award: Former longtime Danville Councilman and Mayor Mike Shimansky, who died in September.

– Award of Special Recognition: Danville police Chief Chris Wenzel.

– The first Michael K Shimansky Community Service Award: Christy Dodge for her work with the Special Olympics.

– Parks and Leisure Services Commission Volunteer of the Year Award: The Valley Youth Council (Anna Tiner, Lisa Wulf, Carmen Ng, Victoria Escalada, Stephanie McMurry, Erica Brown, John DeMarinis, Wilson Wong and Davis Brown) for creating and implementing computer training programs for seniors.

– Arts Commission Volunteer of the Year Award: Kevin Chen for work at the Museum of the San Ramon Valley.

– Town Volunteer of the Year Award: Richard Schumm for coaching youth basketball.

Additionally, there were Awards of Merit. The recipients are:

– Robin Kelley for her volunteering and dedication to the EPIC Healthy Choices Program at San Ramon Valley High School and the youth in the community.

– Danville Police Reserves (Tim Davis, David Goldberg, Dale Myer, Walt Welti, Herman Rellar, Dan Scherber, Marc Silveira, Darrell Thornton, Chris Young).

– Tony Carnemolla for his leadership and service to veterans.

– Sports Alliance (John Sofranac and Gene Stoegbauer/Danville Adult Soccer; Scott Diekman/Danville Little League; Jeff Kahsen/ Diablo Scorpion Lacrosse; Kevin Cole/Mustang Soccer/SRV Little League; Dean Roberts/SRVGAL; Vim Keosian/SRV Thunderbirds; Ron Tressen/Tassajara Valley Little League).

– CPC Job Connections (Rod Ford-Smith, Dean Tracy, Doug Neeper, Bruce Cassell, Kevin Crockett) for ongoing programs to provide support and encouragement to the unemployed.

– Colette Ankenman for establishing Baragwanath Blessings and creating blankets and hats for newborns in South Africa.

– Melony Newman, chief executive officer of the Danville Area Chamber of Commerce.
